TRAFFIC came to a standstill on the N2 on Monday night (southbound) before the eSikhawini turn-off after a white Volkswagen hatchback collided with a taxi.
Nine people sustained injuries, seven of whom were taken to Ngwelezana Hospital and two to Netcare The Bay Hospital.
According to a witness the VW hatchback was being driven by one of eThekwini ANC Regional Secretary Bheki Ntuli’s bodyguards.
He was driving towards Durban when he allegedly attempted to execute a U-turn before colliding with the taxi en route to Jozini.
The taxi subsequently ended up colliding with the barricade on the opposite side of the road.
The eyewitness said Ntuli arrived on the scene soon after the incident and questioned the boduguard on why he was driving alone and why ‘he was being so stupid’.
