Rugby club raided

The brazen criminals smashed their way through a security gate

THE Richards Bay Rugby Club was burgled in the early hours of Friday morning by a group of robbers armed with hammers.

The brazen criminals smashed their way through a security gate and several glass doors within the premises at about 1am.

They managed to break open the safe and fled with a small amount of cash.

They also raided the bar of its liquor stock – CCTV cameras showing the perpetrators’ arms laden with bottles as they left.

Although the alarm was activated, the security company was apparently unable to enter the premises owing to the uMhlathuze Sports Complex gates being boomed off and locked at night.
