Drive to support impoverished schoolgirls

Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre with Soul Therapy supports the national Caring 4 Girls initiative

THE Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre, in conjunction with Soul Therapy, has joined the Caring 4 Girls programme which support young girls with sanitary pads.

This is to tackle the plight of impoverished girls who often miss school during their menstrual cycles.

The aim of the Caring 4 Girls programme is to ensure access to much-needed sanitary towels so girls can stay in school.

‘The aim is to bring social change through providing support to poor rural communities. Education is important and we can’t have young girls missing school,’ said Boardwalk Inkwazi’s Marketing and Public Relations Manager Angelique Wright.

‘Research revealed most impoverished girls miss up to 50 days of school annually owing to menstrual hygiene-related challenges. Some of the girls end up using unhygienic materials such as cloths, newspapers, grass and plastic as alternatives. We can’t have that,’

The national Caring 4 Girls organisation was established in 2012, and has since touched the lives of more than 50 000 girls in KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Gauteng.

More than 300 000 packets of sanitary towels have been distributed to girls throughout the country.
