Empangeni residents have fallen prey to national crime trends where access to properties is gained through gate derailment and/or roof intrusion.

Just last week an Empangeni household fell victim to this when five armed intruders ransacked the house after derailing the front gate and tying up the domestic worker.
Armed perpetrators, equipped with angle grinders and other housebreaking equipment, held the domestic worker at gunpoint before tying her down and looting the home. The domestic worker was ambushed outside.
Because of the domestic worker’s presence, the house alarm was not activated, and since she was tied down, she could not reach and activate any of the fixed panic buttons.
