National crime trends hit Empangeni residents

Empangeni residents have fallen prey to national crime trends where access to properties is gained through gate derailment and/or roof intrusion.

Unprotected ceiling voids can result in alarm system tampering.

Just last week an Empangeni household fell victim to this when five armed intruders ransacked the house after derailing the front gate and tying up the domestic worker.

Armed perpetrators, equipped with angle grinders and other housebreaking equipment, held the domestic worker at gunpoint before tying her down and looting the home. The domestic worker was ambushed outside.

Because of the domestic worker’s presence, the house alarm was not activated, and since she was tied down, she could not reach and activate any of the fixed panic buttons.

Nite Owl offers solutions to the latest housebreaking trends.

The company offers electronic ceiling void protection to detect roof intrusion early, as the first thing criminals do is to rip out the communicator to your security provider, disrupting all signals to the security control room.

An electronic monitoring system can link your automated gate to your alarm system and will send a signal to Nite Owl’s control room on derailment, forced opening or blocking of gate beams – even when your alarm system is not armed.

It is highly recommended that domestic workers, children or elderly persons be equipped with a pendant type panic button for use in emergency situations. This is a mobile panic unit with a detection range of up to 400m.

A pendant remote panic button is easy to use and if worn around the neck and under a shirt, it will be not be visible to intruders.

This pendant remote panic device has an extra large button for easy use, and because it is worn around the neck and under a shirt, it is not easily visible to intruders.

Nite Owl urges residents to be alert and vigilant at all times and to report suspicious movement.

Zululand residents should regularly test their panic buttons and make sure their house alarms are armed when possible.
