Robber shot dead in Brackenham showdown

Police crackdown on house robbers in Richards Bay suburb

ONE house robbery suspect was shot dead last night by police and another is in hospital following a shoot-out during a foiled house robbery in Brackenham last night.

Members of the Empangeni Flying Squad, Empangeni K9 Unit as well as tracking company Tracker, honed in on five men in the midst of a house robbery at a home in Airfern Angle at around 9pm on Wednesday.

A gun battle ensued after the suspects opened fire at police, who returned shots.

The Zululand Observer can report that the VW Polo the suspects were using was stolen in Moberley Road in Empangeni on Monday night.

Police were following information on the stolen vehicle which led them to the home where the robbery was in progress.

Two suspects were not injured and taken into police custody, while the K9 Unit searched into the early hours of this morning for suspect number five, who eluded capture.
