UPDATE: Schoolwork continues day after death of learner (11)

Police to investigate cause of learner's (11) shock death at school

ACADEMIC activities have returned to normal today at Empangeni Preparatory School after the tragic death of an 11-year-old learner on Monday morning.

While the mood is subdued, it is understood learners and staff have returned to work while awaiting a trauma counsellor to visit the school.

Exact details surrounding the incident remain unclear at this stage, but reports indicate the learner was walking down a corridor when two teachers noticed she was not feeling well.

She collapsed soon thereafter in the arms of one teacher.

She did not regain consciousness and despite CPR efforts by teachers and paramedics, she died in the school’s sick bay.

Police confirmed an inquest docket was under investigation to ascertain the exact cause of death.
