Busy December at Port of Richards Bay

163 vessels visited Port of Richards Bay in December

THE month of December was another active one at the Port of Richards Bay, with 163 vessel arrivals and 8 931 464 metric tonnes (MT) of cargo handled.

According to a Transnet National Ports Authority release, a breakdown of the vessel types includes:

• General cargo 2; dry bulk 137; liquid bulk 2; containers 2; oil tankers 5; chemical tankers 3; LPG tankers 2; passenger vessels 3; other 1; coasters 5; dredger 1.

• Total bulk cargo handled was 8 668 146 metric tonnes, of which 533 051MT was landed and 8 135 095MT was shipped.

• Total break bulk handled was 263 318MT, with 1 167MT landed and 262 151MT shipped.

• Container handling (expressed in TEUs = 6m units) stats show a total of 1 845 TEUs were invoiced. Of these, 36 full and 885 empty were landed and 922 full were shipped.
