15 injured as bakkie flips

AT LEAST 15 people were injured on Thursday afternoon when the bakkie they were travelling in flipped on the N2 near Enseleni.

According to Richard Schouten of IPSS Medical Rescue, 12 people sustained serious injuries while two were critical and one person managed to walk away relatively unscathed.

Reports from the scene indicate that the prop shaft of the bakkie broke at speed, digging into the road and sending the vehicle flying.

‘The patients were travelling on the back of the bakkie when the incident occurred,’ said Schouten.

‘They were flung onto the road and onto the grass next to the road.

‘IPSS Medical Rescue as well as KZN EMS and Khasa EMS treated all patients on scene and they were then transported to Ngwelezana Hospital for further care.’
