Sonto’s hard work rewarded

It's a super 6 for Sonto Ngwenya of Dlangezwa High School

WHEN Dlangezwa High School Grade 12 pupil Sonto Ngwenya (17) lost her beloved young brother and the school principal during her matric year, her world was turned upside down.

But this intelligent and hardworking young woman from Ngwelezane soon channeled her pain into her school work.

Her dedication and hard work were rewarded when she passed her matric with flying colours with six distinctions – obtaining the second spot in her school.

She is one of the highest performing pupils in the region, after passing maths, life orientation, life science, English, isiZulu and physical science with an A+ aggregate.

‘I knew I would pass, but was not expecting to get such good results. It still feels like a dream and I am grateful to my teachers who constantly supported and motivated us. We had the best group of educators,’ she said.

Later this month, Sonto will start her tertiary education at Stellenbosch University where she will be studying towards a medical degree.

‘When I become a doctor I would like to come back and work in my community,’ said Sonto, an inspiration to many, and a clear example that anything is possible regardless of circumstances.
