Zungu takes top spot in Zululand

Vuyani Zungu from Ulundi ensured he achieved his ultimate matric goal of eight distinctions.

A MINIMUM of five hours study a day is how Vuyani Zungu from Ulundi ensured he achieved his ultimate matric goal of eight distinctions.

Vuyani, who is obviously over the moon with his results, was the top achiever in the Zululand District and plans to use his stellar results to study accounting at the University of the Witwatersrand this year.

‘It was a hectic year,’ said the Masibumbane High School learner.

‘Without all the support of my teachers I don’t think I would have done so well,’ he said.

Vuyani says he set off at the beginning of last year with the intention of working as hard as he possibly could to earn distinctions in each subject.

The strictness of being in boarding school also helped.

‘My parents are very proud and happy with my results,’ he laughed.

‘I am the first one from my community to achieve to this extent, so everyone at home is really happy for me.’

Vuyani was greeted by the Ulundi Mayor Wilson Ntshangase on his return home on Friday.

Ntshangase plans to formally congratulate the top 20 Zululand District matriculants at an event scheduled for later this month.
