Illegal U-turn causes fatal N2 crash

The Corolla spun out of control and directly into the path of an oncoming truck.

TWO women and a young girl were killed in a senseless crash on the N2 near Mtubatuba on Friday morning after a motorist made an illegal U-turn on the highway.

Eyewitnesses said the man had turned in front of the Toyota Corolla the women were travelling in, colliding with it.

The Corolla spun out of control and directly into the path of an oncoming truck.

The driver who made the U-turn then sped off.

Manager for Extreme Med ambulance service Mathhew Tshambi confirmed all three victims, aged approximately 40, 28 and six years, were declared dead on scene.

‘After a short while on scene we were approached by a limping woman, who was also injured in the crash,’ said Tshambi.

‘She informed us she was getting a lift from the man who made the U-turn, and was injured when his car collided with the victims’ vehicle.

‘She explained he then stopped a short distance away from the accident where he ordered her to get out of the vehicle before speeding off again.’

The woman was treated and transported to a local hospital and it is understood that police will be investigating a case of culpable homicide.
