Wheels come off for pollution monitors

Thieves steal wheels from mobile air pollution station.

THE wheels were brazenly removed from the mobile air monitoring station trailer at Tisand College sometime during the week leading to 21 December.

According to Sandy Camminga, public officer for the Richards Bay Clean Air Association, the station is monitored weekly and the theft was discovered during a routine visit.

‘It appears the culprits entered through a hole in the fence. They simply left the trailer on the ground and we had to use tripod jacks to stabilise and balance it.

‘While we are upset that a non-profit organisation doing good for the community was targeted, we are grateful no damage was done to the sensitive instrumentation.

‘We are now planning to remove all the wheels from the other mobile stations to prevent further such incidents.’
