Top accolade for mayor

Mtubatuba Mayor chosen best Zululand's mayor

AFTER 100 days of bringing service delivery to the people of Mtubatuba Municipality, Mayor Cllr Qhina Mkhwanazi was honoured with the Best Local Mayor award by the Zululand FM’s annual South African Volunteer Awards (SAVAs) 2016 held at the Umfolozi Casino recently.

Pioneered by the Station’s Managing Director and owner Dr Bhekisisa Ngcobo, the awards are aimed at honouring those members of society who have worked to change other people’s lives for the better.

Mkhwanazi, inaugurated after the August 3 elections as Mayor of Mtubatuba, was chosen by the station’s listeners, for his sterling work and track record he has demonstrated within his 100 days of office, and voted the Best Local Mayor of the KZN province.

Hot on his heels, Mkhwanazi was followed by the Mayor of Umsunduzi, in Pietermaritzburg for being the second best mayor; for their dedication in changing the lives of the less-fortunate.

Present at this year’s awards was IFP Leader Dr MG Buthelezi, who congratulated Mkhwanazi for the good job he is doing for the people of Mtubatuba.

‘This award is an honour for me, and makes me more driven to change the lives of my people for the better.

‘I promise to take Mtubatuba town back to its former glory, to be the town we all can be proud of,’ a beaming Mkhwanazi said.
