Community rallies in drown search

Two teens had entered the water to retrieve a soccer ball when both got into difficulty

PARTIAL remains of a second body were on Monday found at Nzalabantu Beach near RBM following the disappearance in the sea of two teens last Wednesday.

This after members of the community who live nearby worked all hours of the day and night in shifts to comb the entire length of the beach.

It was previously reported that the first body was discovered by the SAPS Air Wing helicopter on Saturday, but while the chopper was on scene, both bodies were in fact first discovered by community members.

Empangeni SAPS Search and Rescue as well as Richards Bay Sea Borderline were on scene the entire weekend driving the tireless effort.

The NSRI, who were on scene on Wednesday afternoon, said in a statement two teens had entered the water to retrieve a soccer ball when both got into difficulty.

Another young male came to their rescue and managed to save one of the victims, but sadly perished along with the other youngster when he returned to assist him.

DNA testing will now be done to confirm the identities of the victims.
