Police need puppies for K9 unit

The dogs need to be between nine months and three years old.

THE South African Police Service is urging the public and private enterprises to donate suitable dogs, to increase its K9 Unit operational capacity.

The dogs are deployed for crime detection and law enforcement operations, as well as wildlife trafficking.

The SAPS uses border collies, German shepherds, cocker spaniels, labradors, Belgian shepherds, bloodhounds, rottweilers, golden retrievers, German short hair pointers and Jack Russells.

The dogs need to be between nine months and three years old. Cross breeds will only be accepted if they meet the SAPS’ strict organisational requirements.

The dogs need to be confident, energetic and not scared of people or loud noises.

Potential donors can contact the K9 Donation Office at the SAPS K9 Academy, Roodeplaat on weekdays between 8am and 3pm on telephone 082 7789326 or email roodepl.k9.donation@saps.gov.za
