Theft is on the rise in eSikhaleni

THE eSikhawini Magistrate’s Court is overflowing with cases of shoplifting, theft and petty crimes.

Following is a wrap up of most recent cases:

District Court

Njabulo Gumede (31) appeared in the District Court facing a common assault charge. He was arrested on 24 November and will reappear in court today (Thursday). His bail was denied until his next appearance.

Lindokuhle Sthembiso Mathaba (42) appeared on an attempted murder charge. He was arrested on 24 November and will remain in custody until his next appearance tomorrow (Friday).

Xolani Majola (18) appeared last Thursday facing a housebreaking charge. He was arrested on 23 September and will remain in custody until his next court appearance on 14 December.

Philani Ndimande faced a robbery charge. He was arrested on 21 November and will remain in custody until today.

Muzi Sikhakhane (21) appeared for an assault charge and was released on R700 bail. He will appear in court again on 15 December. Andile Zulu (42) appeared on a rape charge. He was arrested on 31 October and will remain in custody until 08 December.

Sentences

Theft

Siyabonga Zulu (26) – sentenced to 3 months in custody

Muzi Ncube (27) – sentenced to 3 months in prison.

Thembela Mthembu (24) – sentenced to 6 months.

Qiniso Kunene (29) – sentenced to 3 months.

Siyabonga Mdluli (39) was found guilty for housebreaking and theft – sentenced to 18 months.

Mthokozisi Sikhakhane (23) was found guilty for housebreaking and theft – sentenced to 30 days.

Assault

Sikhumbuzo Mkhwanazi (35) – sentenced to 3 months

Khulekani Nxumalo (37) – sentenced to 3 months.

Rape and sexual assault

Bhekenkosi Fakazi (50) – sentenced to 8 years in prison.

Robbery

Jabulani Maseko (25) – sentenced to 3 months.
