The damage caused by porn addiction

'I was horrified when I discovered that he was surfing porno sites, and to make matters worse, he especially enjoyed teen porn'

A LOCAL woman says pornography addiction is often the root cause of many relationship breakups and divorces.

In an open letter to the Zululand Observer, she spoke of her pain, anger and feelings of betrayal because of her partner’s compulsion to watch sexually explicit material on the Internet.

‘I cannot understand why anyone would want to look at naked pictures of someone else if they are happy and secure in their relationship,’ she says wryly.

‘After speaking to several different women in similar situations, I discovered most of them found this behaviour perverted and felt nauseated by the fact that their partners lust after other women.

‘Before I moved in with my partner, I never had a clue that he was surfing porn sites.

‘I was horrified when I discovered it, and to make matters worse, he especially enjoyed teen porn.

‘If I had known this beforehand, I would never have become involved with him in the first place, but love can be blind and hence, I did not give him the boot. ‘I feel betrayed and insecure whenever I catch my partner looking at pornography.

‘I find myself scrutinising every aspect of my physique and constantly compare myself to these flawless women, even though I know their bodies have been airbrushed. It is causing me to develop a low self-image.

‘Men have no clue what they put their partners through and how it affects our well-being. It is just human nature to feel this way and many women find their identity and security in the way they are treated by their partners. ‘If the roles were reversed, how would men feel if their wives were gawking at attractive, naked men?

‘I personally find pornography distasteful. It shows a lack of integrity and commitment towards your partner to surf the net to gawk at images of naked women, thinking your partner is too dumb to know what you are doing.

‘Though I personally do not condone it, if both partners agree, by all means. ‘If however your partner is against it, surely you should respect it?

‘I hope to speak on behalf of women too scared to voice their opinions and explain how it makes us feel when our partners look at pornography.

‘I hope men who read this will take heed and stop what they are doing.

‘Before getting involved in a serious relationship, I urge men to be open about the habit and that they are not willing to give it up. It will save a lot of problems and heartache in the future.

‘Women are by nature emotional beings and thrive on being uplifted, complimented and being made to feel like the most beautiful woman in the world.
