Teaching beyond the call of duty

Mtshali was nominated for her passion to develop pupils to their full potential

VOTED the best of the best by a show of hands, teacher, Philile Mtshali of Emkhayadeni Technical High School in Mzingazi, won the annual Richards Bay Rotary Vocational Service Award last week.

The coveted award is bestowed by the organisation on a person who goes beyond the call of duty to serve the community in his or her professional capacity.

Mtshali, an English teacher, was nominated for her passion to develop pupils to their full potential, focusing on multiple facets of their personalities.

She has been instrumental in encouraging pupils to participate in leadership and cultural programmes and through determination, motivation and energy, has helped them in practical ways to achieve their goals.

Richards Bay Rotary Club President, Louis van Zyl and long time Rotarian Bruce Edwards, agreed that Mtshali was a role model for others dedicated to making a difference.
