A NEWLY-BUILT storeroom, school library renovations and additional playground equipment were some of the upgrades Manguzi school principals want after winning the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition.
The competition aims to empower rural communities by improving school conditions and uplifting teacher morale by involving parents and pupils.
Eight Manguzi schools each received Cashbuild building material vouchers worth R15 000, presented during the Cashbuild Manguzi store opening ceremony held in September.
Enkatheni Primary School Principal Mr A Mthembu expressed his gratitude to Cashbuild, saying his school needs a storeroom for school books, cleaning materials and important documents.
Endlondlweni Primary School principal added they would like to renovate their school library by fixing the leaking roof to prevent books from getting wet when it rains.
Mtikini Primary School Principal Mr S Mkhaliphi said his pupils were excited when presented with a jungle gym, swings and other playground equipment.
The Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition has pupils from each school submitting their best artwork to Cashbuild.
Since the Art-at-Heart campaign was launched 15 years ago, Cashbuild has helped more than 2 500 schools in southern Africa with over R29-million worth of building materials.
The overall winner of the competition was Sphamandla Khumalo of Mengu Primary School.
