Woman found dead from apparent drug overdose
The exact circumstances around her death are still under investigation
POLICE have launched an investigation after the body of a young woman was found inside her flat in Empangeni, her death believed to be the result of an accidental drug overdose.
The 34-year-old Correctional Services officer was found on Monday by a colleague who was to give her a lift to work and who grew concerned after she failed to emerge from her unit inside a flat complex in the Panorama suburb.
While the exact circumstances around her death are still under investigation, sources at the scene confirmed to the Zululand Observer that the woman, who was struggling to cope with the death of her husband earlier this year – also from an apparent drug overdose – was reportedly battling with addiction.
Spokesperson for Empangeni SAPS, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, confirmed an inquest docket had been opened for further investigation into the circumstances of her death.
Her name has been withheld as police could not confirm that all her next of kin had been notified.
