‘Kidnapped’ children found safe and sound

They were in the care of the mother of the third child at the time of the incident

THREE young children allegedly kidnapped from a Wildenweide house on Thursday sparked a massive manhunt, but shortly after the alarm, a motorist found them walking in the street.

The hysterical mother of two of the children, reported to SAPS that they were snatched over the wall of the house in Bontebokboog, by two unknown men.

They were in the care of the mother of the third child at the time.

Anton Wulff of Votella Security was the first respondent on the scene, after receiving a panicked call from one of his clients in the vicinity of the house.

‘The information we received initially, was that two children were kidnapped.

‘I immediately started searching the area.’

Three SAPS vehicles, four Arbovlei CPF vehicles and two Meerensee CPF vehicles, were urgently dispatched and messages were circulated on various security chats.

The suspects were described as two adult men, one wearing a black shirt and the other wearing a black and yellow shirt.

But, shortly after starting the search, Wulff was contacted by a woman who said she picked up three young children walking in the street.

‘She had the children with her in the car – there were two little girls aged about five and two years old and a boy of about four or five.

‘The children were transported by the woman who picked them up, to the Bontebokboog house, where they were positively identified by their relieved parents.

‘The children were unhurt except for the boy, who had marks on his chest.

‘They did not look traumatised.’

‘The mother who looked after them, explained that she was busy preparing food for them in the kitchen, when a man entered, pushed her to the ground and ran off with the children.’

Another source on the scene, said the children told the woman who picked them up that they were on their way to their mother’s workshop, but they could not show her how to get there.

SAPS Communications Officer, Captain Debbie Ferreira, confirmed that a case of kidnapping was opened and said the matter is being investigated.
