Fire destroys gogo’s house

'We appeal to businesses, industry and the community to assist this family urgently'

A GRANDMOTHER and five of her grandchildren were left desolate after their Mzingazi shack went up in flames on Monday.

According to community volunteer Sharon Mdletshe, gogo Khoza and the children were outside the building when they noticed smoke coming through a window.

‘She sent the children to pick a cabbage for lunch, when they saw fire in the second bedroom.

‘It was likely caused by faulty electric wiring which set the curtains alight. They have lost everything,’ Mdletshe said.
The family slept on the floor of Mdletshe’s house on Monday night.

‘The gogo started building a small mud house before the fire, but it has no roof, windows, doors or floors.

‘They need building materials to finish the house.

‘They have nowhere to go and I had to take them in, but they cannot stay with me indefinitely. They don’t have any other family able to help.

‘We appeal to businesses, industry and the community to assist this family urgently.’

Mdletshe can be reached on 083 8723384.
