A YOUNG woman (19) was raped after being offered a lift by a stranger while waiting for transport to Emadwaleni Reserve.
The incident happened at around 5pm outside Mtubatuba last Wednesday.
According to the police report a man calling himself ‘S’busiso’ approached the girl and offered her a lift home.
Believing him, she walked with him to where he said he parked his vehicle.
He allegedly produced a screwdriver, threatened to stab her and then raped her.
After coming across a motorist on the road, the victim told him about her ordeal and the man took her to Mtubatuba Police station where she opened a case.
In a similar incident, a woman (30) was accosted and raped by a man on the same day at around 7:30pm while waiting at a hiking spot for transport to Dukuduku near the Bonjour Service station on the N2.
The suspect offered the woman transport to Dukuduku Reserve.
The police said people who walk alone should be vigilant and avoid transport offers from strangers.
