Residents of townhouse complex raise money to help SPCA in dire straits

WITH SPCA Richards Bay in deep financial trouble, the challenge is on for businesses and community members to gather forces and lend a much-needed helping hand.

Residents of Pipits Pride townhouse complex in Birdswood on Wednesday pulled out their purses and together donated R5 000 to the animal welfare organisation.

Director of the complex’s body corporate, Paul Mathee, urged other compassionate Zululanders to do the same on behalf of helpless animals in the area.

‘We challenge everyone to meet or beat this donation. So many animals depend on us,’ said Mathee.

SPCA Richards Bay chairman Sarel Small thanked them for their generosity.

‘We truly appreciate this cheque and thanks to all who have and continue to support us in these difficult times.’

He said the SPCA is now hosting two flea markets a month to try and raise more funds for the non-profit’s day-to-day operations.

The next open days will be on 29 October, 12 November and 26 November.
