Police call for guns to be returned
‘When someone dies and leaves a gun behind, it is not an inheritance'
ESIKHALENI police have issued an appeal to community members in and around eSikhaleni whose deceased family members had firearms, to hand them in at the police station.
Spokesperson Capt Thembinkosi Mkhumane said all such weapons had to be reported to the police.
He said such a weapons can pose danger to family members or be used unlawfully.
‘In cases where people want to keep a firearm, they should submit an application for it to be registered in their name.
‘When someone dies and leaves a gun behind, it is not an inheritance. Keeping such a firearm is illegal and a person found in possession of such a weapon can be imprisoned for up to 10 years.
