UPDATE: Bathing banned at Alkantstrand
Sewage smell was noticeable at the beach early this morning
AS a precautionary measure bathing at Alkantstrand and Newark beach is banned as testing is being done for E. coli.
This following the sewage spillage at Mzingazi Canal yesterday afternoon.
Contaminated water reportedly flowed down the canal into the harbour and beach area.
Sewage smell was noticeable at the beach early this morning leading to the precautionary action.
Paddlers and fishermen based at the Zululand Yacht Club, Meerensee Boat Club, Sea Scouts and Mzingazi waterfront homes are also to avoid entering the water.
