YCL appeals to youth to support Reed Dance

League saddened by UNIZULU crisis

THE Young Communist League (YCL) in the Riot Makomanisi Mkhwanazi district has appealed to young people from all walks of life to support and participate in the annual Zulu Royal Reed Dance festivities.

This call was made last week during the YCL district committee meeting held at their offices in Empangeni.

Speaking at the first meeting after the local government elections, party spokesperson Khulezweni Shwala urged the youth of King Cetshwayo district to rally their support behind King Goodwill Zwelithini’s initiative.

‘We are supporting this initiative primarily because it promotes abstinence. It also creates awareness about teenage pregnancy, sexual transmitted disease infections and the HIV/Aids pandemic. This is a campaign that we as the youth of 2016 should always lead to save our future.’

Shwala also expressed his disappointment about the crisis engulfing the University of Zululand, saying the situation compelled the majority of students not to proceed with their academic activities.

He also announced they would be staging their second district council gathering in Empangeni next week.

‘The task of the council is to assess emerging political, ideological, social and economic scenarios internationally, nationally and domestically,’ he said.
