A MZINGAZI man died inside his house on Sunday after a fire broke out in his room during the night.
Nhlanhla Gumede was discovered inside his charred room by a neighbour’s child.
The child crawled through a window to assist possible victims after neighbours saw smoke coming from the house in the morning.
The deceased lived alone and there were no other occupants inside the house at the time.
The cause of the fire is not known at this stage, although the community speculated that he might have fallen asleep while smoking.
Only his own room and bed were burnt.
Community members gathered at the scene to support family members, including his brother and distraught mother, who travelled all the way from Sokhulu when they heard the news.
