Child rapist handed life sentence

'There is no place for rapists in our society'

SHE was just ten years old when her mother’s boyfriend dragged her into his bedroom and violently raped her in his eSikhaleni home in October last year.

Last week the Empangeni Regional Court heard how the child then bravely told her grandmother what had occurred, and the matter was immediately reported to the eSikhaleni police and the Empangeni Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) for investigation.

Bonginkosi Welcome Dlamini (34) was arrested and held in custody through several court appearances, which culminated in his sentence to life imprisonment.

Empangeni SAPS FCS Unit commander, Colonel Makhosi Ncube, said the ongoing efforts of Constable Duncan Boardman were instrumental in bringing Dlamini to justice, and said his thorough preparation and tenacity ensured that the young victim’s family ‘can now have some closure in knowing their daughter’s attacker will never be free to hurt anyone again’.

The sentencing also caught the attention of Acting KZN Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa.

‘There is no place for rapists in our society. We will continue to send them to jail where they belong,’ he said.
