Waterfront child ‘kidnapping’ a false alarm

SAPS says Waterfront 'kidnapping' of toddler is unconfirmed

REPORTS about a two-year-old child allegedly kidnapped from a restaurant at the Tuzi Gazi Waterfront last weekend, are unconfirmed and could be related to a custody dispute.

Social media erupted with the ‘kidnap’ story – now proved to be false.

This is according to SAPS communications officer, Captain Debbie Ferreira, who says Richards Bay Police Station have been inundated with phone calls from panicked members of the public trying to establish the identity of the child and circumstances of the alleged kidnapping.

‘No charges have been laid at the station about a missing child.

‘According to unconfirmed reports, the girl was taken by one female.

‘We are investigating the allegations, but anybody with information is requested to contact the police, rather than spread information on social media.’

According to sources, the child was in the father’s custody at the time and he declined to lay charges.

Several members of the public and bikers who attended the Hippo Rally joined the search.
