WATCH: Whale washes up in the Bay
It was too late to rescue the already deceased young mammal
A HUMPBACK whale was found beached between the Small Craft Harbour and Casuarinas at 8am today.
Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife District Conservation Manager Frans Mthembu was called out to the scene, but it was too late to rescue the already deceased young mammal, estimated to have been five or six years old.
Mthembu is currently waiting for equipment to arrive from the port to move and bury the whale nearby.
‘She most likely got stuck in shallow water when the tides changed at 2am this morning,’ said Mthembu.
