Expanding horizons for rural crèche pupils

‘We appeal to any businesses or good Samaritans who can support our school with donations'

A TRIP to the city turned into an exciting classroom lesson for pupils of Sokhaya Crèche who visited Richards Bay last week.

The trip included visits to the Unizulu Science Centre’s Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre, Boardwalk Inkwazi Shopping Centre and the Richards Bay Airport.

School principal Funani Mchunu said every year the school plans a trip to the city for the children, as many come from rural areas and have never been to the city or even local towns.

‘We began this excursion to expose children to new adventures and we discovered they were able to put what they have learned in the classroom into practice.

‘When we passed the robots they sang the ‘robot songs’ and named the different colours and their meanings.

‘We are situated in the Makhwezini area in KwaMthethwa Reserve and have 89 pupils in one classroom,’ said Mchunu.

‘We appeal to any businesses or good Samaritans who can support our school with donations, especially a new classroom, to contact us on 072 3147854.
