Fifth taxi murder accused charged

Murder accused remanded in custody

A FIFTH suspect, Brian Nxumalo (26), has been charged with the murder of Arboretum meter taxi owner Sibongiseni Mbonwa and has been remanded in custody until his bail application on Monday.

The accused made his first court appearance in the Richards Bay Magistrate’s Court this week.

Nxumalo evaded police capture for several weeks and faces charges alongside four co-accused, Siyabonga Nxumalo (21), Ndodo Mnguni (28), Thabani Bukhosini(24) and Fanizani Mdletshe (25), who were arrested last month. Their bail applications were denied.

It is believed the five men hired Mbonwa for his services and later kidnapped, robbed and murdered him.

He was reported missing on 16 July and his decomposed body was discovered two weeks later in bushes near a road in Hluhluwe.
