Wildlife auction raises R5.6-million

The stars of the show were the three buffalo bulls

A TOTAL of 82 animals were offered at the Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife game auction at the iMfolozi Game Reserve’s Centenary Centre on Tuesday.

Forty-four nyala fetched R439 250 with an average price of R9 980.

Not often seen at Ezemvelo auctions were two eland bulls from the Vryheid Hill Reserve.

They were sold for R8 500 and R10 000 respectively.

The stars of the show were the three buffalo bulls.

Bidding was brisk with the first going for R75 000, but the animal in Lot 17 attracted the most attention and was eventually knocked down to Lara and Mark Gaudin of Intaba Ingwe at R120 000.

This breeding bull from the Eastern Shores section of iSimangaliso will be added to the Intaba Ingwe herd to improve the genetics of the herd.

Rhinos sales disappoint
The ‘boma’ rhinos sold well, with the highest price of R400 000 being reached for a white rhino male from iMfolozi Game Reserve.

Of the catalogue white rhino, four were sold at the reserve price of R15 000, with a fifth being sold for R160 000.

Last year’s average price was R365 000 for the September auction and in May this year the sales averaged R318 654, with a maximum bid of R780 000.

The total proceeds from the auction was just under R5.6-million.
