Victims of horrific N2 crash identified

The victims sustained serious injuries and were declared dead on scene

POLICE have identified the two victims of a fatal crash on the N2 near Empangeni in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Sinethemba Mahlangu (17) and Halisani Gumede (22) were reportedly on their way from an outing with friends in eSikhaleni to their homes in Mtubatuba when their vehicle experienced mechanical difficulty.

At around 3am, they were pushing the vehicle on the N2 near the Mhlathuze River bridge when a double-cab bakkie, a City of uMhlathuze municipal vehicle, ploughed into them from behind coming to a stop against the concrete barrier some 50 metres away from the point of impact.
