Empangeni a top crime hot spot

Residential burglary remains number one

EMPANGENI has again made it into the top 10 list of worst crimes precincts as per crimes reported in KZN.

Crime statistics released by the South African Police Service and Stats SA for the period April 2015 and March 2016, show that carjacking has shown the most growth not only in Empangeni, but across Zululand.

Residential burglary, however, remains the number one crime with the most cases reported.

In Empangeni alone carjacking went up by 114.6% to 88 cases compared to 41 in 2015, while in Melmoth figures show a 160% growth – from 5 to 13.
