UPDATE: Clinic addresses public concerns

Reports of a dirty clinic in eSikhaleni tackled by management

THE management of the Phaphamani Clinic in eSikhaleni is attending to the unhygienic conditions visitors and patients have been complaining about.

Last week patients said the facility has become a ‘gallery of filth and a source of germs’.

According to them the clinic is crawling with insects and dirt is evident everywhere.

To add fuel to the fire, patients claimed only one toilet was in use for both male and females and was even used as a storage space for medical equipment.

Last Monday all patients were required to do a urine test and still had to share the toilet.

According to Ngwelezana Hospital public relations intern Zandile Zwane, the Health Department decided to change all toilets to high pressure units to avoid constant breakdowns.

‘There is a problem with the sewerage system at the clinic. The hospital is in the process of fixing the problems.

Quotations have been invited and site inspections have been done,’ said Zwane.

‘As far as urine tests are concerned, this is standard procedure for all patients visiting the clinic for diagnostic purposes.

‘The hospital will fast-track the repair of the sewerage system and the changing of the toilets.’

The clinic’s operation manager will take responsibility for every operation in the facility.
