A 35-YEAR-OLD man escaped from an angry mob with minor injuries in eSikhaleni on Tuesday afternoon.
He was attacked by a group of shoppers after he attempted to steal a delivery bakkie from a parking zone at eSikhawini Mall.
According to witnesses the man was reversing the vehicle when the rightful owner came out from the shops and cried for help.
The owner tried to prevent a getaway by grabbing the steering wheel.
In the subsequent ‘wrestling’ match for control of the steering wheel, the bakkie smashed into four other cars before customers intervened and helped the owner.
The culprit was then attacked, but saved in a nick of time when police arrived at the scene.
The man was charged with car theft and will appear in the eSikhawini Magistrate’s Court today (Thursday).
