Call for sex pest investigation

'Teachers have a responsibility to educate our pupils and to behave as parents to their pupils'

THE IFP has called for an urgent investigation into teachers’ sexual behaviour at all schools.

The call was made following the suspension of five teachers at Ekucabangeni High School at eNquthu and the firing of 12 teachers across the province for sexual abuse offences.

‘We must be serious about protecting our young people against teachers who abuse their positions to take advantage of pupils and ruin their lives,’ said spokesperson Thembeni Madlopha-Mthethwa.

‘The emotional and psychological scars remain with these pupils long after any physical hurt has healed.

‘Teachers have a responsibility to educate our pupils and to behave as parents to their pupils.’
