Vicious dogs maul boy to death

Owner hangs his dogs as penance

A FIVE-year-old boy was mauled to death and five other boys critically injured in two separate savage dog attacks this week.

Little Buhle ‘Khuluza’ Mthethwa’s cries for help vainly echoed across the Mtholo Reserve in Mtubatuba on Tuesday as a vicious pack of his neighbour’s dogs attacked him.

The boy had volunteered to purchase some household goods for his frail grandmother at the tuck shop next door.

Unaware the dogs had been let loose and left unattended, he entered the premises.

He was immediately set upon by the dogs and his defenseless body dragged to the kraal where he was brutally dismembered and mauled to death.

According to his traumatized grandfather, Bentu Mthethwa (65), the boy wanted to help his grandmother who is suffering from high blood pressure.

‘He was like a son to me because his mother disappeared long ago and I took care of him. He was always helpful around the house. How sad is it that an act of kindness ended in such a tragedy.

‘His face was unrecognizable and the wounds horrific.’

By the time the police arrived on the scene, the child was already dead.

Shocked by the actions of his pets, the dogs’ owner used wire to hang them from a tree as penance.

The owner was charged and appeared in the KwaMsane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
