Shoe donation creates happy feet

The school has 440 pupils, most of whom were born to teen parents and are cared for by their grandparents

AN American company, Toms Shoes, that matches every pair of shoes purchased with a new pair of shoes for a child in need, has partnered with Rotary Richards Bay to distribute 6 000 pairs of shoes to pupils in rural schools.

A portion of this, 121 pairs, were delivered to the Zululand Observer’s charity organisation Do I Care Enough? (DICE), and later donated to Mvuzemvuze Primary School in KwaDlangezwa.

The school has 440 pupils, most of whom were born to teen parents and are cared for by their grandparents.

‘We truly appreciate the help,’ said Principal Lungile Mngoma. ‘Our pupils will benefit greatly from this donation.’

A further 500 pairs (sizes five to eight) are available through the project and schools are invited to approach DICE with their requirements.
