‘They should be dead!’

Couple survives car rolling down 30 metre embankment

A DURBAN couple are lucky to be alive after their car smashed through a barrier and tumbled down a 30 metre embankment in Empangeni.

The accident occurred at around 6pm yesterday (Wednesday) on Main Road just after the bridge before the Tanner Road intersection.

The driver, who was travelling from Richards Bay to Empangeni, lost control of his silver Chevrolet sedan, colliding with the barrier before taking flight, rolling at least three times as it went over the edge, coming to a stop near the railway line behind CTM.

An eyewitness who was travelling in the opposite direction, says he saw the car smash into the barrier before tumbling out of sight.

‘I was shocked. I’m surprised these people are alive, they should be dead,’ he said.

The female passenger was transported to hospital by ECG Medical Services with a broken right arm and an assortment of cuts and bruises while the driver was unscathed.
