Promoting breast is best concept

Families were educated on the importance and benefits of breastfeeding

WOMEN were encouraged to support the human milk bank situated at the Lower Umfolozi War Memorial Regional Hospital during World Breastfeeding Week awareness campaigns in Richards Bay last week.

The event was supported by the Department of Health, PATH, an international non-profit organisation which strives to improve the health of women and children, and the Zululand Observer’s charity organisation DICE (Do I Care Enough?), who donated teddies and toys for the children.

Targeting mothers with babies and their spouses, families were educated on the importance and benefits of breastfeeding and women were urged to support the milk bank movement.

This year the World Breastfeeding Week theme was on raising awareness of the links between breastfeeding and sustainable development by recognising that breastfeeding is a key to child development.
