Ready to roll for the ellies

The expedition will be highlight the plight of the African Elephant among children, politicians and conservations.

An EXCITED group of women are about to set off on an amazing expedition which will see them travelling 10 000km through 10 African countries, finishing in Kenya.

After months of preparation, the highly motivated women will be leaving on Tuesday, 9 August (Women’s Day) to travel to various places of jumbo significance wider the banner ‘Elephant Ignite’ and will led by Carla Geyser.

The expedition will be highlight the plight of the African Elephant among children, politicians and conservations.

Along the way they will also visit elephant sanctuaries and distribute various supplies.

After leaving Sibaya, their first stop will be Thula Thula where they will acknowledge the late Lawrence Anthony, author of the book ‘The elephant whisperer’ and the role he has played in elephant conservation.

Two more stops in Zululand will take in the work of Digs Pascoe’s Space for Elephants Foundation at the Pongola Nature Reserve and Tembe Elephant Park.

The expedition then travels through Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania and finishes in Kenya. Official beneficiaries identified by the team are the Elephant and Bees Project, Wildlife Connection, Ecexist Project, Game Rangers International, Kasungu Elephant Foundation and the South Luangwa Canine Unit.

The vehicles for the expedition have been sponsored by Safari Rental driven by Avis The expedition will be filmed for a web-series for the Earth Touch website, www.earthtouchnews.com where the public will be able to follow the girls’ progress.
