Lessons in history for youth

uThungulu District Municipality has officially been named King Cetshwayo District Municipality

THE launch of the King Cetshwayo District Municipality, until this week known as the uThungulu District Municipality, turned into a fascinating history lecture at the uMfolozi TVET College sports ground in eSikhaleni on Tuesday.

His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini spoke about Zulu history, culture and heritage.

Not only did the King advise the youth to learn about their background, but said they should use it as a foundation to build a better future for themselves.

‘We must always remember what our ancestors fought for, and learn to respect each other. Young people must learn from their elders and also seek information about their heritage,’ said the King.

Zwelithini also condemned the killings of innocent people, including those with albinism.

‘These inhuman acts must stop. People with albinism cannot bring luck as most believe. It;s just a skin colour. We must protect them and treat them with respect.’

Accentuating the words of Mayor Thembeka Mchunu, who have spearheaded the fight against teen pregnancy since she started her term of office, the King said the fight must begin at home where children are taught how to behave.

Praising woman leadership

He also extended his gratitude to female leaders such as Mayor Mchunu and her team for their impeccable leadership skills, which has constantly put the municipality on the map.

‘Through their leadership we have seen this municipality growing from strength to strength. These woman have achieved what even most men have not accomplished. They are an example to everybody and most people can learn from them.’
