Teens flee robbers, struck by car

According to reports, it was while attempting to evade the would-be thugs that the teenagers were struck by a car.

TWO Empangeni schoolchildren are recovering in hospital after they were struck by a car while allegedly attempting to flee from robbers.

At around 8am on Wednesday morning the youngsters were walking along Weightman Avenue towards the taxi rank when a group of men armed with knives allegedly sprung out from the bushes and accosted them.

According to reports, it was while attempting to evade the would-be thugs that the teenagers were struck by a car.

One of the boys suffered a broken leg and a severe head injury, while the other was lucky to escape with only minor cuts and bruises.

They were transported by ambulance to Ngwelezana Hospital for treatment.

Police could not yet confirm if a docket was opened as they still needed to obtain statements from all parties involved.
