Municipalities to blame for rapes says IFP

Both these municipalities must be blamed for their failure to provide water to the residents of Emadeya - Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa.

THE Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) says the uMkhanyakude District and Jozini Municipality must take the blame for the rape of two girls while on their way to fetch water from the Ingwavuma River.

The incident occurred in Emadeya Village, ward 17 of the Jozini Municipality on 6 July.

Addressing the Emadeya community, Jozini IFP MPL and Women’s Brigade National Chairperson, Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa, said, ‘Both these municipalities must be blamed for their failure to provide water to the residents of Emadeya, forcing people to travel long distances to fetch water from the river.

‘They have failed to send water tankers to the affected areas, so people can get water closer to their homes. They must take full responsibility and be held accountable for this incident.

‘The lack of bold leadership in these municipalities has proven to have a negative impact on the lives of our people. If they cared enough for the people they would provide them with the necessary basic services,’ kaMadlopha-Mthethwa said.
