Police annoyed at bogus protest call

The station had received a call that a number of people dressed in DA T-shirts were staging a protest at the Main and Frank Bull roads intersection.

A RATHER annoyed Warrant Officer from the Empangeni police station was dispatched to the Zululand Observer offices on Friday morning following reports of a ‘protest’.

According to the officer, the station had received a call that a number of people dressed in Democratic Alliance T-shirts were staging a protest at the Main and Frank Bull roads intersection.

To his chagrin he discovered that it had in fact been a bogus call.

The DA members in question were handing out flyers and had erected posters and banners as part of their election campaign.

To put the cherry on the proverbial cake, the prank caller identified himself as being an employee of the Zululand Observer.

After it was established that no one from the ZO had in fact felt the need to telephone the cops, the Warrant Officer went on his way.
