Family of seven held hostage

Three robbers entered the property and chopped through a door frame to gain entry into the home.

AN Mzingazi family of seven was taken hostage after a house robbery and vehicle theft in the early hours of Friday morning.

Three robbers entered the property which had multiple homesteads and chopped through a door frame to gain entry into one of the homes.

They tied up a young victim at the first premises and proceeded to the main house where they banged on the water tank, waking up the owner.

When he came outside to investigate the noise robbers attacked, assaulted and tied him up also.

The relatives who were inside the home locked the door and refused to open.

The perpetrators smashed a window and went into the property, robbed them of their belongings and forced the entire family of seven relatives into their new Toyota bakkie and drove with them on the N2.

Police were alerted to the incident and intercepted the getaway bakkie near Hluhluwe.

When the vehicle came to a stop, the robbers jumped out and fled the scene.

During the high speed chase, a relative was shot twice in the leg by the robbers but is recovering at home.
