Union pleas for peaceful road to elections

Violence is never the answer, warns the South African National Civic Organisation

LOCAL committee members of the South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) has urged all Zululanders to steer clear of participating in any uprisings heading towards local government elections on 3 August.

SANCO’s regional executive committee members for uThungulu, Thembinkosi Mthembu and Zanele Mjadu, did not mince their words stating they will not fly their flag for violent protests that habitually lead to the destruction of community buildings.

‘Everyone must understand that these structures demolished in marches belong to the community, not the government,’ said Mthembu.

‘Opportunistic people grab any arrangements for their own selfish interests so even planned peaceful protests end in violence and destruction.

‘We also want to emphasise we support the ANC nominated candidates.

‘Any marches staged against these candidates, whether in Nkandla or Madlankala, must not include our banners.’
